The Caroni Swamp: More Than a Tour
The Caroni Swamp is one of Trinidad and Tobago's most important wetland ecosystems. Its mangrove channels, marshes, lagoons and mudflats support birds, fish, crabs, oysters, caimans, boas and other wildlife, while also helping protect the coastline and support local livelihoods.
For generations, Nanan's has helped locals and visitors experience this ecosystem from the water. The story began with Simon Oudit Nanan and Winston Nanan, whose work helped raise awareness of the swamp and the need to protect the Scarlet Ibis. Today, that legacy can continue through education, youth engagement, citizen science, research support and responsible eco-tourism.

Family Heritage
From early swamp guides to a sanctuary legacy.
Simon Oudit Nanan and Winston Nanan helped shape the Caroni swamp tour tradition. Their concern for the protection of the scarlet ibis helped build public support for conservation, leading toward the sanctuary that visitors experience today.
Nanan's Eco Tours carries that history into modern tourism by combining local knowledge, group hospitality, and digital booking support.
